Cops in Central Florida say they've noticed a new crime trend: criminals are reading obituaries and breaking into homes while residents are attending funerals, a Web site is reporting. Police in Volusia County say criminals are combing newspaper obituaries to determine when homeowners will be away from their homes and attending services, Local6.com said. Then they break in when the house is not occupied.
The situation came up in Port Orange, where two families posted an obituary about their sister passing away in New Hampshire and noting that her burial would be in Maine, the Web site said. Criminals broke into the homes of her sisters while they were attending services, Local6.com said.
